This dress was draped on a duct tape dummy which was formed over my corset. Again, all of the pieces that make up this dress were custom draped/drafted except for the hoop skirt (because I ran out of time).

This gown consists of: chemise, drawers, corset, corset cover, hoop, under petticoat, over petticoat, dress, and a removeable collar and cuffs (cuffs not pictured).

The skirt is double box pleated directly to the waistband of the bodice. The skirt was hemmed by sewing a band of muslin around the bottom of the skirt and sewing it up. (Yes, I know the hem is HUGE on this dress.... it was 4 a.m. and I was too tired to realize I botched it up). The skirt is dog-legged (meaning the bodice closes center front and the skirt closes left front)

The bodice has two rows of black gimp trim that continues on to the jockey sleeves. The buttons on the bodice are for decorative purposes only as the bodice closes with hooks and eyes (yes, this is a period techinique).

The sleeves are two pieces, a trimmed jockey sleeve and a modified bishop sleeve pleated to a cuff (which is also trimmed and closes with hooks and eyes - the cuffs are not pictured closed (my mistake))

Things I would change:
- collar and cuffs are too stiff (and the collar is messed up in the picture and cuffs are not pictured)
- hem is too big
- sleeves could be fuller

Oh yeah, I cut my face out/off because I was so red I matched my dress (it was 95 degrees and humid.)

Faux button closures can be documented back even earlier if people want to complain. Are your sleeves detachable? The seam at the shoulder had me wondering.

Out of curiousity, how big is your hoop? It looks very proportional and functional, but I am used to seeing the gianormous Scarlett O'Hara hoops that often come out in evening wear.

The whole thing has a very nice line and is quite flattering on you.

No, the sleeves are not detachable. The sleeve is actually two parts, a jockey (cap) sleeve and then the modified bishop sleeve (which was also sewn on at the true armscythe). I'm hoping to get better pictures of this dress because this one makes it look a little strange.

My hoop is actually larger than it looks (and larger than it should be for daily wear). It's about 130" (circumference). The weight of the dress and the petticoats smoosh it down a great deal. Both petticoats have 10 yards of fabric and the skirt has 7.... so they're pretty heavy combined. I am quite glad the hoop appears smaller.

Thank You! :)

What sort of hooping do you use? Mine is a very stiff hoop steel that stands up to pretty much anything you can throw at it.

I bought some cheap-o hooping from a bridal store becuase I didn't have time to wait for hoopsteel to come in from California. Since the reenactment I have ordered real hoopsteel and I will be replacing the hoops sometime soon. :)

My first hoop was the same way. It's since been replaced and comes along as my "emergency hoop" in case someone forgets theirs or something like that.

Yep, mine has already been donated to our unit's garment trunk.

Everyone needs one of those. I donated my corset from last year (still in perfectly good shape, but no longer fit me) to the new girl on court because she only had about a month to make her first court Elizabethan, just so she would have one less thing to do.

That's very generous. I can give up a hoop skirt... but I don't think I could ever part with my beloved corsets. haha

I'd like to compliment you on your patience :O_o:
and i do quite like the dress, the accents give it quite a bit of character. :)
